Upcoming ChampCar Endurance Series Event – FAQs

To help everyone be better prepared for ChampCar events, here is a list of Event FAQs and links to important information.

FAQ:
Rules
“I am not driving, just crewing”, or, “I am just a driver, not a builder” so I don’t need to read the ChampCar rulebook. Wrong! Everyone needs to read the rulebook so that everyone understands our series, understands the rules of the road, rules of pit lane, fueling, and the paddock.

Spectators:
All events are opened to the general public to watch. You will have to purchase a temporary membership. These are generally $20 for two-day events or $10 for single day events. Ages 16 and under are free with parent or guardian. Some tracks do not allow under 18 in the cold/hot pit lane. Please review the event rule supplements for more details and restrictions. We strongly encourage new teams to visit a race before entering their first ChampCar race. You can learn so much by being there. If you can’t attend, please watch our shows and live races at http://champcar.live

Garages:
If garages are available they will be able to purchase during your checkout process when entering your team. If it was not, or you decided after entering, then just email the event director and they will add you to the list. You will pay at the time of race check-in.

Event Information:
You can get all the latest event info by reviewing the event supplements. These will have all the information your team needs to prepare for the upcoming race, such as important event timing, maps, rules, and special info. You can also view the event entrants. In the top menu of the ChampCar.org website, click RACE SCHEDULE, then from the drop-down, click EVENT / ENTRANT LIST / SUPPLEMENTAL RULES
https://champcar.org/register/events.php

Event Directors:
Event directors are the people running the event. They are the people you contact with any questions or concerns about the event. The ChampCar event directors are Dana Morrison, Mike Chisek, and Mike Morrison. If you are wondering, the two Morrison’s are not related. You can get everyone’s email address here https://champcar.org/mainweb/about/. The supplementals will have phone numbers in for last minute questions.

Pre-Event Tech Checklist
1. Make certain that you have downloaded the latest ChampCar Rulebook. This book is updated periodically. So make certain you have the latest. Get the BCCR here.
2. Get a small flashlight and inspect all roll cage welds and make certain they are within the BCCR rules. Even on Pro-Made cages. It’s easier to get it fixed before the event. Check to top bars and all welds up against the body. Out tech inspectors will.
3. Check the dates on the window nets and seat belts. Make certain they are within the current rules. make certain they are in good shape.
4. 5-Gallon fuel dump cans ONLY! Read the rules as to how much fuel is allowed in the pit lane at one time.
5. Have all of your paperwork in order before you get into line at tech. Download and print, then fill out these forms. DO NOT RELY on tech personal “getting your numbers” for you. It is the responsibility of the team principal, owner, or team captain to assemble all of the documentation. Get the forms and online VPI / SWAP numbers here https://champcar.org/mainweb/rules/
6. After you pass tech you will receive the official ChampCar Logbook.

Event Check-In
1. Set up your paddock spot
2. Tech your car. Most events, gear check is also in the same place that you tech your car. If your car already has a current tech inspection and log book and there are no changes to the car, then proceed to #3.
3. Once you have your car tech’ed, go to registration and check-in. Make any payments due. You will get a race packet. This will have your important race documents in it like driver and crew wristbands, important event information, sponsor details, times, etc.
4. Go have fun… finish the car… setup the pit lane… have fun!

Race Morning
1. Wake up. Early.
2. Have a good breakfast.
3. Go to the driver and crew pre-race meeting.
4. Get your car positioned on pit lane.
5. A pitlane number will be drawn for the starting position. If you are not in your pit lane you will be released at the end of the field.
6. Start race, be safe, and have fun!

My pit stall – What do I need?
Turn to page 19 of the BCCR. This page is really important, mainly for your safety.
#1 item is you need a 10-pound ABC fire extinguisher (Approved alternative – 3kg NOVEC fire extinguisher having a minimum UL 60 BC or ABC rating). 10-Pound. 10-Pound. Please repeat. Inspect the 10-Pound extinguisher to make certain the indicator is in the green.Turn the bottle upside down and shake it. The powder can compress to the bottom sitting in your trailer. Reinspect the bottle. View How to inspect your fire extinguisher video.
You need your fuel. In 5-Gallon, or less, dump cans. NOT 10-Gallon dump cans. Only 5-gallon. No exceptions.
BCCR Rule 8.2.9. TEAMS ARE RESTRICTED FROM STORING MORE THAN 25-GALLONS OF FUEL IN THEIR PIT STALL.
You need a fuel catch pan. BCCR 8.1.2.3. A suitable gasoline and/or liquid catch pan must be used during refueling in an appropriate position to catch any spilled fuel. All fueling/gasoline catch pans MUST be manufactured of metal or sturdy, chemical-resistant plastic, maintain a minimum 3” depth, hold a minimum of 1-gallon (4-quarts) of liquid. Catch pans should be larger than 12” square or 12” in diameter and should not exceed 24” square or 24” in diameter. Oil drip pans work perfectly for this.

How can my family watch the race live
Most ChampCar events are shown live, or tape delayed via our mobile-friendly YouTube Channel located at www.champcar.live. If you can’t watch it live, the event is available to watch as a recorded show via the same YouTube channel.
