Before you submit a ticket

The Tech Desk is for rules clarifications and technical questions. It is not a post race tech line, a place to protest results, or a place to fish for how other teams built their cars.

Most questions can be answered by reviewing the current BCCR Rulebook. Please read the applicable section before submitting a ticket.

If your question is already covered clearly in the BCCR, your ticket may simply be answered with a reference to the rulebook section.

VPI request checklist

For all Vehicle Performance Index (VPI) requests you must include:

  • Year, make, model, and trim level
  • Engine size and engine horsepower
  • Drive type: FWD, RWD, AWD, or 4x4
  • Transmission type: automatic or manual
  • Car weight and all factory options that affect performance
  • A link to the vehicle on automobile-catalog.com or another site with full specifications if it is not listed there

Requests that do not include all required info and research will be denied without review.

Q:
The 5 speed NA and NB Miata transmission have exactly the same parts, gearing, functionality and fitment. Only difference is the shifter which provides no advantage, arguably the NB being the weaker one.
Is there any way to allow NB transmission swap into NA chassis? I know it's irrelevant but in SM is allowed to swap either/or since they provide no advantage between them.
Reason I am asking is because NAs are slowly becoming more rare and an NB transmission is much easier to source out.
Some people may argue that NB is better built but it's not. All transmissions that I personally seen fail while competing in SM were ironically NBs not NAs.
Can we please allow this swap for free since it's initially the same transmission? They even look completely the same so unless the VIN is present there is no way to know unless the shifter is removed.

The transmissions are the same other than the shifter housing and beings shifters are free the NA & NB 5 speeds are considered the same and no swap fee applied..
