2022-12-29 - Removal of Cat Converter from exhaust manifold

Q.
I am looking to get an interpretation of the no additional points rule 4.7.2 for "exhaust systems downstream of the header/ exhaust manifold (from the collector back)" for an exhaust manifold that comes from the factory with a cat. converter built in. Can we remove the catalytic converter and replace with the a straight section of pipe?

A.
Yes you can cut off the cat's. You should keep a small amount of the factory collector.
Note. Some of these manifolds are made of aloy steels that require different welding techniques and materials.
